Brazil Bid to Host 2016 Olympics Clean, Convincing - Organizing Committee

There is no ground for suspicions about Rio de Janeiro's Olympics bid, the Rio 2016 organizing committee president, Carlos Nuzman, said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, media reported about ongoing French prosecutors' investigation into alleged corruption during 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games bidding process.

"We submitted a clean and well-organized bid. We won with a huge advantage over all other candidates at every round and in the end we won by 66 votes against [Madrid's] 32," Nuzman said as quoted by the local Record newspaper.

He added that the Brazilin side was not aware the French investigation.

"This [probe] is not our problem, we had a clean victory," Nuzman pointed out.

Rio de Janeiro will host the Summer Olympic Games on August 5-21, 2016.
