TOKYO (Sputnik) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected and voiced his personal approval of the test-firing of a new portable anti-tank laser guided weapon, Korean media reported Saturday.
"He noted with great satisfaction that even the special armored tanks and cars of the enemies, who boast of their high maneuverability and striking power, are no more than a boiled pumpkin before the guided anti-tank weapon," Yonhap news service quoted North Korean state media as saying.
Kim was cited as praising the precision weapon for the "longest firing-range in the world," its armor-penetrating capability, and its range of hits, which he said were "as accurate as a sniper’s rifle firing."
He called for the mass production of the weapon to start in earnest and for its deployment at frontline military and coastal units.
The latest report of the undated inspection comes three weeks after Pyongyang launched a Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite atop a long-range rocket, defying a UN Security Council resolution banning it from launching rockets that could be used as ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
On January 6, Pyongyang said it had successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test, triggering condemnation from the international community and prompting a new wave of US, Japanese and South Korean sanctions.
