MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, Moscow and Washington announced that a deal to cease hostilities between the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad and armed opposition factions had been reached. The agreement will come into force on February 27.
"We are sure that the Syrian government will cease fire, but it is unknown if the armed groups linked to notorious terrorist movements will do the same," Amir-Abdollahian was quoted by the IRNA news agency as saying.
He added that Iran was making attempts to contribute to the struggle against terrorism in Syria and to hold inclusive negotiations of the Syrians with the United Nations.
Since 2011, the Syrian government has been fighting multiple opposition factions and extremists, including Islamic State and the Nusra Front, terrorist groups outlawed in a number of countries worldwide, including Russia.
