US to Send Armored Vehicles to Finland Spring Military Exercises
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Finland’s military cooperation with the United States and NATO is not surprising as the security situation in Europe has deteriorated, Finance Minister Alexander Stubb said.

"The security situation in Europe and in the Baltic Sea region has deteriorated, especially as a result of the crisis in Ukraine," Stubb wrote in a blog post Monday.

According to the minister, Finland is strengthening its international security and defense policy cooperation, including partnership with NATO.

"None of this should come as no surprise to anyone… Our main defense bilateral partner is the United States," Stubb added.

US armoured vehicles and F-15C fighters with 70 to 100 personnel will participate in the military exercises in Finland in spring, it was revealed earlier this month.

Finland has historically been a neutral nation and has never been a member of NATO. Finland is currently a member of NATO's affiliate program, known as the Partnership for Peace.
