What's in a Name? Briton Becomes Known as Mr 'Bacon Double Cheeseburger'

After a drinking session in a pub, most people opt for a takeaway to avoid a hangover - not change their name to one. But that's exactly what one Briton did. Sam Smith from London is now known as Mr Bacon Double Cheeseburger.

Yes, that's right a gas consultant living in the UK changed his name to 'Bacon Double Cheeseburger' by deed poll.

"It was the culmination of probably too many drinks in a pub where there was a conversation about names.

"Bacon Double Cheeseburger was pretty much the first thing that came up. Everyone loves bacon don't they?" Mr Cheeseburger told London newspaper, Evening Standard.

Mr Smith then made an application to the UK Deed Poll Service, joining the record number of other people that applied to the official service to change their names last year. 85,000 swapped their birth names for something else.

Cartoon characters and famous footballers are often a top choice, with one die-hard fan changing his name to Queen's Park Rangers after the football team. Others include Real Madrid's Christiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

Some, on the other hand, have chosen to become 'Simply MyLove Poet' and "one man changed his name to Happy Birthday."

"It gave us a chuckle but if that is what they want to do, it's their choice… Some people simply don't like their original name — we've changed Cock to Cox and Smellie to Smiley," Louise Bowers of the UK Deed Poll Service said.

And it seems to be a relatively easy process to change a name — it takes four working days and costs US$46 (£33) for an adult and US$49 (£35) for a child — but lasts longer than a hangover.
