Sanctions against 38 Russian media outlets proposed by Ukraine’s National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting harm bilateral relations, the chair of the Russian Union of Journalists (RUJ) said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Ukraine’s National Council asked the country’s National Security Service to impose sanctions against 38 of Russia’s largest television broadcasters and media outlets earlier in the day.

"This is ridiculous and harmful for Russia and for Ukraine," RUJ chairman Vsevolod Bogdanov told RIA Novosti.

Bogdanov stressed that decisions directed against Russia "of course do not stem from the people but from the leadership."

"This causes utter bewilderment, there simply is no common sense."

Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic’s spokesman told RIA Novosti earlier she planned to contact Kiev in relation to the proposed bans.
