MOSCOW (Sputnik) – It is too early to make any comments on information of Russia’s supposed proposal of announcing a ceasefire in Syria beginning March 1 since no plans have been officially announced, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.
“The fact of the matter is that no plans have been announced. This means it should be understood and let’s not jump to any conclusions. You know that Russia is consistently applying efforts in the context of settling the Syrian conflict together with other countries that are participants in the process. I wouldn’t jump ahead,” Peskov told journalists.
Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups, such as Daesh, which is banned in a range of countries, including Russia.
