WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US-led coalition will continue to deprive the Daesh terrorists of access to the remaining 98 kilometers along the Syrian border with Turkey that the group still controls, US Presidential Envoy for the Global anti-Daesh Coalition Brett McGurk said on Wednesday.
"As the map that accompanies this statement demonstrates, Daesh’s only remaining outlet to the world remains a 98-kilometer strip of the Syrian border with Turkey," Brett McGurk told the House Foreign Affairs Committee during a hearing.
McGurk explained that in recent weeks the coalition had taken aggressive measures to seal off the border and urged that "the importance of this effort cannot be overstated: loss of access to the border will deprive Daesh entirely of its only route for material and foreign fighters, including disrupting Daesh’s ability to exfiltrate fighters back into Europe to conduct external operations."
