WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led air campaign against Daesh launched three strikes on targets in Syria and 18 strikes in neighboring Iraq, the latter coordinated with the Iraqi government in Baghdad, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to eliminate the ISIL [Islamic State] terrorist group and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria and the wider international community," the release stated. "The destruction of ISIL [Islamic State] targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the group's ability to project terror and conduct operations."

In Syria, the strikes targeted tactical units near the towns of Kobani, Manbil and Mar’a, as well as a fighting position near Mar’a, the release explained.

In Iraq, the attacks were coordinated "with and in support of the government of Iraq using rocket artillery and attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State] targets," the release added.

Seven of the 18 strikes in Iraq hit Daesh tactical units, staging areas, rockets, a weapons cache, heavy machine gun and vehicles, according to the release.

The other 11 strikes targeted positions near the Iraqi cities and towns of Fallujah, Mosul, Ramadi, Al Huwayiah, Qayyarah Sultan Abdallah and Tal Afar.

Daesh, is a designated terrorist group outlawed in the United States and Russia, as well as in numerous other countries. The infamous terror group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq, and declared a caliphate on territories under its control.
