Colombian FARC Rebels Demand Parliament Seats to End Lengthy Armed Conflict
MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — The statement comes as the US-backed peace talks with FARC are moving closer toward a ceasefire agreement that could be reached in March.

“What we sign in Havana, I will submit to a plebiscite, whether FARC likes it or not,” Santos said on Twitter Monday.

On September 23, Santos and FARC representatives signed a deal in Havana, Cuba, setting a schedule for the rebel forces’ full demobilization and disarmament. The Colombian peace talks, which started in November 2012, have continued despite occasional violence

The FARC was established in 1964 as the military wing of Colombia's Communist Party. The military confrontation between FARC and the Colombian government has killed an estimated 200,000 people.
