New UN Security Council sanctions against Pyongyang should not trigger a humanitarian and economic collapse in the country, Russia's Envoy to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Sunday.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the UN Security Council held an emergency session and called for a response to North Korea's launch of the Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite atop a long-range rocket.

"We believe that this resolution should be worthy of the Security Council, weighty. But, of course, its adoption should not lead to some humanitarian collapse in DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea], should not lead to an economic collapse in DPRK," Churkin told reporters.
