Russian diplomats are holding talks with Beninese military on gaining access to the Greek tanker and it's crew, which are being held hostage in Nigeria, according to the head of the Russian embassy's consular department.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Embassy in Benin is negotiating with the country's military the issue of getting access to a Russian citizen, who is currently on board the Leon Dias tanker, which had been hijacked in Nigeria, head of the consular department of the embassy Nina Abramyan said Saturday.

“According to the Chief of Naval Staff of Benin, a Russian citizen is on board the vessel, he’s all right,” Abramyan told RIA Novosti.

She added the issue of the Russian consulate employees' access to the Russian citizen is "currently negotiated with the Beninese military."
