Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreev will meet Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski on Thursday, Andreev said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Relations between Poland and Russia deteriorated over the crisis in Ukraine’s southeastern regions in 2014. The West, including Poland, accused Russia of interfering in Ukraine’s conflict with pro-independence militias in southeastern Ukraine. Moscow has roundly rejected the claims.

"Indeed, we are meeting for the first time after Mr. Waszczykowski was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. I think we will discuss the general state of our relations and current issues," Andreev told the Rossiya-24 broadcaster.

The diplomat welcomed Waszczykowski’s January 24 comments regarding "optimistic forecasts" in Russian-Polish ties.

"Normalizing ties is in the interest of both parties. This process should develop in a natural way without having to be linked to some preconditions," Andreev specified.
