Iran Believes Syrian Ceasefire Possible Only After Terrorists Lay Down Arms

Ali Akbar Velayati, the Iranian supreme leader’s top adviser, said that it is meaningless to have a ceasefire in Syria and give the terrorists a chance to renew their power.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A ceasefire in Syria will be possible only when terrorists lay down their arms, the Iranian supreme leader’s top adviser, Ali Akbar Velayati, said Wednesday.

“It is meaningless to have a ceasefire and give the terrorists a chance to renew their power. A ceasefire makes no sense until the terrorists lay down their arms. It’s necessary that they lay down their arms and their patrons stop supporting them,” Velayati said.

He added, however, that humanitarian aid to Syria was “a very worthy and important thing.”
