US-Led Coalition Against Daesh Carries Out 26 Airstrikes in Iraq, Syria

The US-led coalition against the Islamic State (ISIL), also known as Daesh, conducted six airstrikes in Syria and 20 airstrikes near seven Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, including Ramadi and Sinjar.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Islamic State, also known as Daesh, conducted 26 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq targeting the terrorist group’s units and infrastructure, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release on Tuesday.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted six strikes using attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft," the press release stated. "Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 20 strikes coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State] targets."

Airstrikes near three Syrian cities, Raqqa, Dayr Az Zawr and Manbij, were carried out on February 1, and destroyed an Daesh tactical unit, two gas and oil separation plant well heads, a training facility and several buildings held by the terror group, according to the press release.

The US-led coalition conducted 20 airstrikes near seven Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, including Ramadi and Sinjar. The strikes destroyed multiple Islamic State tactical units and fighting positions, as well as other targets.

The Islamic State, also known as Daesh, is a terrorist group outlawed in the United States, Russia and many other countries. The infamous group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate there under a strict Sharia law rule.
