The international Hackathon DeepHack Q&A kicked off on January 31 at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), the institute said in an official statement.

The event for computer programmers, researchers and geeks will last for a week, until February 6.

There are a total of 12 teams of programmers that will compete against each other and apply all of their knowledge to solve the program Allen Al Science Challenge.

Participants are tasked with writing a program able to accurately read and answer questions from US school exams.

"The idea of this hackathon is that we are working on a problem, which would challenge the fundamentals of science," said Mikhail Burtsev, the head of one of the computer labs at MIPT, as cited by the MIPT statement.

During the week, hackathon participants will have an opportunity to attend the lectures of leading experts in the field of computer programming.

"By attracting international partners we can provide participants with the opportunity of real-life communication with the best professionals in the [computer] industry," Burtsev said.
