NATO, Russia Should Talk Face-to-Face, Not Through a Megaphone
BRUSSELS (Sputnik) NATO is currently mulling the decision to hold a NATO-Russia Council meeting in order to strengthen the mechanisms of communication while carrying out military operations in Syria in order to avoid situations similar to Turkey's downing of a Russian fighter jet last year, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberger said Thursday.

"We have raised with our Russian counterparts several times the need for strengthening these kinds of mechanisms and this is an issue which we'll continue to discuss both in the OSCE framework, but also directly with Russia. We are looking into the possibility of holding a NATO-Russia Council meeting. We have never suspended the Council, but we think that at the same time now it's time to look into the possibility of having a meeting. No final decision has been taken, but we will also discuss this with the Russian delegation in NATO and then make a final decision on when we should have such a meeting," Stoltenberger said during a press conference in Brussels.
