Russia Says 40 Tonnes of Humanitarian Aid Delivered to Areas in Syria
GENEVA (Sputnik) The United Nations aims to collect $3.8 billion for Syrian refugees in need of assistance, the UN's resident and humanitarian coordinator in Syria, Yacoub El Hillo, said Tuesday.

"We are seeking $3.8 billion in 2016 for Syrian humanitarian aid," Yacoub El Hillo said at a press conference in Geneva.

He expressed hope that international donors would perform better than last year, when the UN humanitarian agency managed to raise only half of its $2.9 billion goal for Syrians in need of assistance.

Since 2011, Syria has been mired in a civil war with government forces fighting a number of militant groups and opposition factions. Around 11 million people have been displaced by the conflict.
