Kerry Confident Syria Talks to Proceed After Meeting With Gulf Arab FMs

Mutual cooperation is the only way to achieve success in resolving the Syrian crisis and destroying Daesh terrorist group, US State Secretary John Kerry said after talks with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers Saturday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Kerry is in Saudi Arabia days several ahead of much-anticipated intra-Syria talks mediated by the United Nations.

"Important meeting w #GCC. Focus remains on #SyriaCrisis resolution & destroying #Daesh. Agree success can only be achieved thru cooperation," Kerry tweeted.

Lavrov, Kerry Discuss Syrian Opposition Delegation Ahead of UN-Backed Talks
The US diplomat told reporters after the GCC meeting he was confident that talks between Syrian government and opposition representatives would proceed "with good initiative in the next day or so."

Earlier, the US Secretary of State held talks in Riyadh with representatives of the six GCC states, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
