BEIJING (Sputnik) — The man was arrested by police on January 7 for circulating terrorism-related propaganda online, The Global Times reported, citing a local prosecutor.

China began to actively counter terrorism in late 2015, when National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee adopted the first counter-terrorism law in the country's history on December 27.

The new legislation significantly strengthens the exchange of information between the Chinese authorities and security services and tightens cybersecurity measures, as well as transport checks and border controls. It also provides for the creation of an anti-terrorist intelligence center to collect data.
