MOSCOW (Sputnik) – De Margerie died on the night from October 20 to October 21, 2014, when his business jet crashed in Moscow’s Vnukovo airport. De Margerie was the only passenger on board the aircraft. Three French crew members also died in the crash.
"We have been summoned by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the presentation of charges in the final version," the driver’s lawyer said.
The plane, which was scheduled to fly to Paris, crashed during takeoff after colliding with a snow machine that was being operated by driver Vladimir Martynenko.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, Martynenko was operating the snowplow in violation of the runway rules due to the absence of oversight by senior shift engineer Vladimir Ledenev. Violations on the part of air-traffic controllers on duty also contributed to the crash.
Margerie spoke against western sanctions imposed on Russia over the situation in Ukraine in his last public address made before the Vnukovo crash.
