US Vice President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi call on international support for the stabilization of the liberated Iraqi city of Ramadi, the White House stated in a release after a meeting between the two leaders.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Iraqi security forces initially declared Ramadi free in December, after Daesh militants captured the strategic city in the Anbar province last May.

“Both leaders discussed the urgency of stabilization efforts in Ramadi and the importance of mobilizing international support for those efforts,” the release said on Thursday.

The Iraqi military said on December 28 that it was in full control of Ramadi, but the Anbar governor said later that in reality only 80 percent of the city was recaptured. Abadi said two weeks ago that the mission to liberate the city was complete by 95 percent.
