US Mayors to Support Obama’s Immigration Plan in Court
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Supreme Court will rule whether the plan of President Barack Obama to shield millions of illegal immigrants from deportation is lawful, US media reported on Tuesday.

The US top court is expected to hear the case in April and come up with a ruling before June, the Washington Post reported.

Obama’s executive order issued in November 2014 protects up to five million undocumented immigrants from being deported from the United States and provides them with the opportunity to obtain work permits.

The president updated the regulations on immigration to reduce the number of families being split by previous immigration policies, and to reduce the number of children who were entering the United States alone and illegally, according to the White House.

However, 26 US states — most of which are controlled by Republican governors — rejected the legality of the presidential executive order and filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration.
