“This nomination is especially dear to me because it is already my second. Any success, even a major one, often depends on luck or chance. Too many directors and actors were nominated for and even got an Oscar, only to disappear for good. That’s why it was as if I was competing with myself, trying to prove that the 2009 success was not just an accident,” Bronzit told RIA Novosti.
He said that the 15-minute film about two friends who dreamed of becoming cosmonauts had taken four entire years to make.
Along with the Russian cartoon, other nominated entries in this category include Richard Williams’ Canadian-British project "Prologue," "Sanjay's Super Team" by Pixar, “The World of Tomorrow” — an American short film by Don Hertzweldt, and the Chilean entry “Bear Story.”
The Oscars will be announced at a ceremony on February 28 in Beverly Hills.
Konstantin Bronzit, best known for his cartoon "Alyosha Popovich and Tugarin Zmei", is a member of the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a proud winner of France’s prestigious Cesar award and of Russia’s very own Nika and Golden Eagle awards.
He is best known to the general public for his full-length cartoon “Alyosha Popovich and Tugarin Zmei”, which came out in 2004.
