German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere will leave for Istanbul on Wednesday after several German nationals died in the attack in the Turkish city, local media reported.

Huge Explosion Hits Central Istanbul, Casualties Reported
BERLIN (Sputnik) – According to the N-24 television channel, the German victims of the attack came from Berlin, Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia states of the country.

At least eight German nationals were killed and nine others were injured in the suicide bomb attack in central Istanbul's square, according to preliminary data of the investigation.

The Istanbul explosion claimed a total of 10 lives and injured 15 people. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called the incident a terrorist act, adding that it was perpetrated by a Syrian suicide bomber.

Following the incident, the German Foreign Ministry called in a travel notice on its citizens to show "increased caution" when traveling to the city.
