FMs of Japan, Russia to Discuss North Korean Nuclear Test Next Week
TOKYO (Sputnik) — Moscow and Tokyo agreed to cooperate in relation to North Korea’s recent nuclear test, Yoshihide Suga, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary said Wednesday.

"[The sides] agreed that the DPRK's nuclear test is unacceptable and that Russia and Japan will work together on this issue, including in the United Nations," Suga said during a press conference in Tokyo on the results of a Tuesday meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and former Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura.

On January 6, Pyongyang claimed it had carried out its first hydrogen bomb test, which triggered condemnation from the international community that denounced the test as provocative and undermining stability in the region.

The UN Security Council at an emergency session condemned the nuclear test and announced it would begin work on further significant measures against North Korea in a new resolution.
