President Barack Obama fell short in his State of the Union speech of explaining how he will protect Americans from Daesh (also known as ISIL/ISIS or Islamic State terrorist group), US Congressman Jason Smith said in a statement on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama called Daesh in his speech a terrorist network that needs to be rooted out, hunted down and destroyed, reiterating the present US strategy of relying on airstrikes to complete the task.

“There was no talk of how dangerous the threat is from ISIS [Daesh] and how we will actually defeat them,” Smith stated.

However, Smith noted the present strategy is inadequate to defeat the terror group, and also criticized Obama on a number of other national security-related issues for failing to meet pressing challenges.

He cited the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan, North Korea’s continued development of nuclear weapons and fears that Iran will use a pending nuclear agreement to continue threatening the United States.
