MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere and Maas announced plans to ease the deportation procedure for migrants accused of sexual assaults.
The measure was deemed necessary after hundreds of women in the German city of Cologne were reportedly robbed and sexually assaulted on the New Year's Eve by groups of aggressive men, allegedly of Arab and North African origin.
Several similar incidents were reported on the same day in Frankfurt, Dusseldorf and Berlin.
"There definitely will be more deportations due to legislature changes, as we are reducing deportation requirements," Maas told the ARD broadcaster in an interview.
