US House Overwhelmingly Passes New Sanctions Against North Korea
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Senate is looking to coordinate with South Korea and China as they consider their response to the January 6 North Korean nuclear bomb test, Senator Tim Kaine told Sputnik.

"Clearly there needs to be a response to this and we ought to work on it in tandem with the South Koreans," Kaine said on Tuesday of the test.

In addition to working with South Korea, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee "talked a lot about" how to push China to use their influence on the DPRK [North Korea]. "They [China] have more leverage, we need to insist that they use it."

On Monday, the US Senate held classified hearings to discuss North Korea’s most recent nuclear test, and introduced a new bill that will reportedly impose tougher sanctions on the isolated nation.

On Tuesday evening, the US House of Representatives is voting on a new North Korean sanctions bill targeting the country’s leader Kim Jong Un and his inner circle.
