Sharif to Modi: Pakistan to Punish Terrorists After Indian Air Base Attack
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A group of gunmen in army fatigues stormed the Pathankot air base in the Punjab region early on January 2. Four of the attackers were taken out in a shootout that also killed at least seven security personnel. The exchange of fire continued into the third day as the gunmen launched an offensive.

Earlier in the day, Sharif chaired a high level meeting to review the regional situation.

"[The meeting] reiterated Pakistan's commitment to cooperate with India to completely eradicate the menace of terrorism afflicting our region. In line with Pakistan's commitment to effectively counter and eradicate terrorism, the meeting reviewed the progress made on the information provided by the Government of India. It was decided to remain in touch with the Government of India in this regard," the statement said.

The meeting, held in Islamabad, was also attended by Army Chief Raheel Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and several other top military and government officials.
