TOKYO (Sputnik) – Tensions mounted on the Korean Peninsula on Wednesday after North Korea announced it had carried out the first test of a hydrogen bomb. The international community has condemned the test as provocative and undermining stability in the region.
The South Korean ministry stated it allowed entry into the area only to Korean businesspeople who are directly linked to manufacture in Kaesong, the Kyodo news service said, without specifying the duration of the measure.
The Kaesong industrial zone is located on the North Korean territory, to the north of the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas, still formally in a state of war.
Some 55,000 North Korean employees and 120 South Korean companies have been working in Kaesong, producing clothes, shoes, watches, and other goods.
