Two multi-purpose French Mirage 2000 fighter jets launched a spate of strikes on Daesh oil facilities on the outskirts of the northern Syrian city of Raqqa, according to the French newspaper Le Parisien.

The newspaper quoted French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian as saying that the airstrikes were launched outside Raqqa at about two o'clock in the morning local time.

"I received information about the operations against [Daesh] oil facilities that were carried out last night. We must continue the fight against terrorists," Jean-Yves Le Drian said.

The air raids came amid reports that the Russian fighter bombers Su-34 destroyed a building near Raqqa where Daesh commanders had gathered for a meeting, and that the Su-34 also obliterated over 20 trucks used by Daesh for oil trafficking in the north-western Syrian city of Idlib.

Late last month, French Rear Admiral Rene-Jean Crignola said that his country's Air Force carries out up to 20 percent of the international coalition’s airstrikes against Daesh.

According to him, the French warplanes perform the task of collecting intelligence in Iraq and Syria to increase, in such a way, the power of strikes against Daesh in the two countries.

France intensified its anti-Daesh campaign in Syria following a series of terrorist attacks in Paris that claimed 130 lives on November 13.
Daesh, also known as the Islamic State or ISIL/ISIS, is a terrorist group which is banned in several countries, including Russia and the United States.
