US-Led Coalition Conducts 24 Airstrikes Against Daesh in Syria, Iraq

The US-led coalition hit Daesh positions with seven airstrikes in Syria and 17 in Iraq.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh (Islamic State) launched 24 airstrikes against the terror group in Syria and Iraq targeting its forces and infrastructure, the US Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve announced in a statement on Thursday.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted seven strikes using attack and remotely piloted aircraft," the statement said. "In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using fighter, attack, and bomber aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets."

Seven coalition airstrikes in Syria targeted fighting positions and fighters, a building and a vehicle in and around the cities of Ayn Isa, Mar’a and Manbij.

Meanwhile in Iraq, 17 airstrikes hit staging locations, a Daesh headquarters, sniper positions, rocket propelled grenade positions and tactical units.

The US-led coalition of 65 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh in Iraq since August 2014 and in Syria since September 2014, but without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.

Daesh is a designated terrorist organization that is outlawed in numerous states including in Russia.
