KIEV (Sputnik) – Ukraine’s national oil and gas company Naftogaz has assessed the potential damages it has suffered due to Russian energy giant Gazprom’s alleged abuse of its monopoly over gas transit services in the country at $6 billion, the head of Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Committee said Thursday.
"Naftogaz estimates losses from Gazprom’s possible abuse of its monopoly status at up to $6 billion," Yuri Terentyev said at a briefing.
At the briefing, the head of the Antimonopoly Committee indicated that two-to-three weeks would be allocated for deliberations on the matter, resulting in a possible fine of 30 percent of Gazprom’s revenue from gas transit services in Ukraine.
In late 2014, Naftogaz appealed to an arbitration court in Stockholm, seeking a retroactive revision of its 2009-2019 natural gas transit contract with Russia.
