Over 20 percent of voters would support Kaljurand's potential candidacy for president, according to the polling data, as cited by the Postimees newspaper. Just under 13 percent of respondents would vote for former Mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar, who was dismissed amid a corruption investigation. Over 10 percent of voter preferences went to former Vice-President of the European Commission Siim Kallas.

In a similar survey conducted in March, Kaljurand’s popularity rating barely exceeded 10 percent, while in August, she was on just 14 percent.

In Estonia, the president is elected by the parliament. The term of current President Toomas Hendrik Ilves is due to expire in the fall next year. This is his second term in office, the maximum permitted under the country’s constitution.
