"I’ve already said that during my address to the Federal Assembly, and I want to say it again here: we consider the Turkish a friendly people, and we don’t want to spoil relations with Turkish people. As for the current Turkish leadership – as they say, nothing is eternal under the moon," Putin said in an interview for the Vladimir Solovyov's documentary "World Order" which will be broadcast on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

During his address to the Federal Assembly on December 3, Vladimir Putin called the Turkish people "a kind, industrious and talented nation," saying that Moscow doesn’t equate them to the "part of the current ruling clique directly responsible for the deaths of our servicemen in Syria."

The relations between Moscow and Ankara soured dramatically after Turkish forces downed a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft on November 24 in response to an alleged violation of Turkish airspace. Both Russian and Syrian defense officials have confirmed that the Su-24 never crossed into Turkish airspace.
