Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh claims that the passage of a UN Security Council resolution outlining a peace process in Syria illustrates that progress has been made toward a solution to the Syrian crisis.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The passage of a UN Security Council resolution outlining a peace process in Syria illustrates that progress has been made toward a solution to the Syrian crisis, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh told reporters on the sidelines at the United Nations.

"If you have a Security Council resolution, I think this is indeed progress," Judeh told reporters on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, the UN Security Council voted unanimously in favour of a resolution that outlines a path toward a peace process in Syria.

Judeh added ahead of the vote, that voting on a Syrian resolution would "reinforce" the international community’s commitment to a political resolution of the crisis.

The resolution establishes that talks between the Syrian government and opposition groups are to take place in early January 2016. The resolution also asks UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to order a report that will create procedures to monitor the anticipated Syrian ceasefire.
