The Obama administration has given sufficient explanation to the security procedures for vetting Syrian refugees coming to the United States, advocacy group Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society Policy and Advocacy Vice President Melanie Nezer told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "In recent weeks, the federal government has explained in as much detail as possible the security screening measures refugees undergo before they can come to the United States," Nezer said on Tuesday.

On Monday, US advocacy group Judicial Watch sued President Barack Obama after being denied a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by the US government on how it plans to resettle refugees from countries with high rates of terrorism.

Nezer noted that information about the refugee program is public and much of it is posted on US government agency websites.

"The federal government requires resettlement agencies to consult with local officials and others involved in receiving resettled refugees," she added.

Nezer concluded that the US government has been successful in resettling millions of refugees throughout the country’s history with a large track record of doing so.

The debate about immigration vetting has been renewed after Tashfeen Malik and her husband Syed Rizwan Farook shot and killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California on December 2. Malik entered the United States on a fiancée visa and married Farook prior to the couple undertaking the attack.
