"We have always been vocal on coordination, that is for sure. We can confirm that we are and always have been in favor on more coordination on actions in Syria," Didier Vanderhasselt said answering a question as to whether Belgium would be in favor of coordinating its actions in Syria with the new Saudi-led coalition.
The Islamic coalition, which includes Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey, among other nations, was created "to counteract terrorism, which became a threat to the interests of the Islamic nation," according to a statement issued by Riyadh to announce the decision.
Several members of the new coalition are also members of the US-led alliance which has been launching airstrikes against Daesh militant group in Syria and Iraq since 2014. Russia also commenced an aerial operation in Syria against the group, in September, having outlawed it.
