MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The published climate change draft text calls on 195 nations to hold the increase of global average temperatures to "well below" 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The text urges signatories to "pursue efforts" to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
"This agreement represents the best chance we've had to save the one planet that we've got," Obama said.
"The Paris agreement establishes the framework the world needs to solve the climate crisis. It creates the mechanism, the architecture for us to continually tackle this problem in an effective way," the president added.
The agreement is, however, not perfect as any other accord, Obama stressed, adding that even if all targets set in Paris are met, it would be only a part of the effort required to curb the climate change.
On Saturday, nearly 200 negotiators agreed to curb emissions beyond 2020 and fuel the transition toward a clean energy world economy after two weeks of tough negotiations marked by disagreement between developed and developing countries.
