MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Afghan media reported over the weekend that ISIL had captured at least four east Afghan districts where it has established a self-proclaimed caliphate. Up to 1,600 fighters are reported to have pledged allegiance to the terrorist group.
"[Moscow] is seriously concerned by reports about the strengthening position of the notorious Islamic State [group] in different parts of the world, including Afghanistan," Zakharova said at a briefing.
She stressed that the radical group had shown its ability to use any situation to its benefits, "creating hotbeds of contradictions, violence, and tensions."
Daesh is a terrorist group outlawed in Russia and many other countries for its numerous atrocities, including a series of deadly attacks in Paris on November 13, that left 130 people dead, and the downing of the Russian Airbus A321 passenger plane in Egypt, which killed all 244 people on board.
