MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with the army loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting several opposition factions and militant groups, including Islamic State (ISIL, or Daesh in the Arab world) and the Nusra Front.
"During the talks…the sides reiterated their stances on major international issues of common interest, including the settlement of the situation in Syria," the statement read.
Titov and Paraskevopoulos also exchanged views on various aspects of Russian-Greek cooperation, according to the statement.
Russia launched an air campaign in the country against the ISIL, a group outlawed in Russia and many other countries, at Assad’s request in September.
