WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama has repeatedly promised to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, known for its alleged use of torture, but the prison continues to remain open.
"Zaher Hamdoun… appeared before the Periodic Review Board (PRB) at Guantanamo to seek the government’s approval for transfer and an end to his 14-year detention without charge," the release stated on Tuesday.
CCR urged President Barack Obama to end Hamdoun’s "forever detention" because there is no proof he represents a threat to US national security, according to the release.
Of the 107 men who remain detained at the Guantanamo Bay facility, 48 are approved and await to be transferred.
