Paris Talks Likely to Result in Climate Change Deal - New Zealand Minister
PARIS (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — The 21st UN Climate Change Conference that is currently underway in Paris aims to reach a comprehensive accord that would replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, dealing with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

"I am naturally optimistic and I think we are not going to…leave Paris without reaching a positive accord, and I am talking about all African countries. Definitely we will have an accord," Andre Johnson said.

According to Johnson, Togo needs financial aid from the World Bank and other partners in order to overcome two major problems of the country's climate change — coastal erosion and shift to renewable energy.

On Saturday, representatives of 195 countries approved an updated draft of the climate agreement devoted to the fight against global warming. The COP21 is scheduled to produce the final text by Friday, December 11.
