DONETSK (Sputnik) – Members of the French charity "Urgence d’Enfants Ukraine" (Pediatric Emergencies Ukraine) have visited the eastern Ukrainian self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), bringing money for the treatment of four children injured during shelling, and for the repair of the heating system in a children's rehabilitation center, the DPR Foreign Ministry said Friday.

"A delegation from a French charity has visited the Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children in Donetsk. They transferred money to the center’s account to repair the heating system, which was damaged by shelling," the ministry told RIA Novosti.

Moreover, the charitable organization held meetings with representatives of a number of humanitarian foundations operating in Donetsk.

"The issues of the activities of these organizations in difficult wartime conditions and the prospects of bilateral cooperation between the DPR and French charities were discussed," it added.

The DPR Foreign Ministry noted that the French guests expressed their desire to continue to provide assistance to the war-weary citizens of the republic.

Ukraine's Donetsk and Lugansk regions have been severely affected by fighting between Ukrainian troops and local independence supporters, which started in April 2014 when Kiev launched a military operation in the region.

In November 2014, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko imposed an economic blockade on Donbass, withdrawing all state-funded health, educational and social protections from the region.
