Russia, EU Avoid Discussing Sanctions Amid Chill in Ties – Russian Envoy
RIGA (Sputnik) The European Union must extend sanctions imposed on Russia, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said Wednesday.

"The fragile truce in Ukraine is not peace. A ceasefire agreement is constantly violated, heavy military equipment still has not been withdrawn, and control over the Ukrainian border has not been restored," Grybauskaite said at a joint press conference with her Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko, who arrived in Lithuania for an official visit.

The European Union, the United States and their allies introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions in 2014, accusing Moscow of meddling in the Ukrainian conflict between Kiev forces and independence supporters in the southeast. The claims have been repeatedly denied by the Kremlin.

The ceasefire in eastern Ukraine is reported to have been fully observed since September 1.

Following the Normandy Four foreign ministers meeting on Ukrainian crisis in November, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the results of talks on Ukrainian reconciliation exceeded all expectations.
