On November 13, a series of terrorist attacks in Paris claimed the lives of some 130 people. At least four of the terrorists allegedly responsible for the attacks arrived in France from Belgium, according to the French police. Law enforcement agencies have found out that one of the perpetrators lived in Molenbeek.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — Belgium's Interior Minister Jan Jambon said on Saturday that it is a necessary to check all the apartments in the Brussels' district of Molenbeek to prevent radicalization in the Belgian capital.

"I believe that the administration of the commune must knock on every door and ask who actually lives there. It is about the residence checks conducted by a precinct when one moves into a new house," Jambon was quoted by the L'Avenir news outlet as saying.

It is "unacceptable" for the authorities to be unaware of who lives in the district, the minister said, adding that 85 out of 130 "fighters" who returned to Belgium from Syria are currently residing in Molenbeek.

"There are apartments where two people are officially registered, but where 10 people actually live," he said.

Amid security concerns, Jambon has prepared a comprehensive set of measures to prevent radicalization, which include, above all, education of the minors on the issue.

The overcrowded borough of Molenbeek in Brussels is a safe haven for radical Islamists: it is here where jihadists acquire weapons, find logistical support and networks to carry out terrorists attacks in Europe, the mayor of Molenbeek said, according to Reuters. - Sputnik International

Molenbeek is one of the poorest districts of Brussels. A significant part of its population are immigrants.

Following the attacks in the French capital, Belgian police have carried out a series of anti-terrorist operations detaining a number of people in Molenbeek, suspected of links to the attacks.

Earlier this week, Belgian police detained 10 people in connection to the Paris attacks during a series of home raids across Brussels, according to media reports.
