WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A US citizen was killed in the Friday terrorist attack on a hotel in Mali, a senior State Department official announced in a press release.
“We can confirm the death of a US citizen in the attack on the Radisson Hotel in Bamako, Mali,” the official said on Friday.
The official added that “out of respect for the family,” the State Department cannot provide further information at the moment.
Earlier on Friday, several armed militants took 170 people hostage at Radisson Blu Hotel in the center of Mali’s capital of Bamako. At least 20 people were reportedly killed during the siege, according to the preliminary information announced by the country’s prosecutor.
Earlier, it was reported that 27 people were killed in the attack.
