US Sanctions Lifting to Make Defense of Russian Citizen Viktor Bout Easier
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Bout was arrested in Bangkok in 2008 in an operation by Thai and US authorities, accusing him of conspiring to kill US soldiers by supplying Colombian militants with weapons. On September 2, the UN Security Council amended sanctions against Liberia and removed nearly two dozen individuals from the sanctions list, including Bout, convicted by a US court in 2011. On October 26, US District Court Judge Shira Scheindlin ruled to not overturn Bout’s conviction.

"Our efforts will not be ceased until all the international legal mechanisms are exhausted," the Russian diplomat told RIA Novosti.

He added that Russia with very serious concern perceived refusal of the US District Court to review the Bout case over newly discovered evidence.
