WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is pulling out of the still-crowded race for the Republican presidential nomination, he acknowledged in public statements.
“I cannot tell you what an honor it has been to run for President of the United States of America,” Jindal said in a Facebook statement on Tuesday evening.
Jindal started the race with a reputation as a successful and innovative reforming governor, but he failed to sustain support above 1 percent with Republican voters.
His promises to act tough against Russia, China, Iran and the ISIL also failed to win him any credibility with his party’s grassroots supporters.
Jindal also failed to impress major Republican Party financial contributors and had campaign funds of only $261,000 at the start of October, according to media reports.
